I was once conducting a life coaching session at a college in Mumbai, and a starry-eyed student asked me exactly what the title does:

“With all due respect, what the hell do I do with my life?”

Well asked, I’d say — leaving aside the fact that the seminar was about to address just that and patience would have been an important lesson for him to learn.

Nevertheless, this cluelessness isn’t the goliath most make it out to be. Here’s how you can arrive at and answer to this question.

1. Realise That Marks Aren’t Everything (Still Important, Nevertheless).

It’s time to let go of this toxic mindset and start paying attention to a holistic development. Even the education system is changing to be more inclusive of extracurricular activity and incorporating digital means of learning; when will you?

2. Start Planning Your Career, My Friend

Career planning never ceases to lose its importance in a person’s life — be it when they are students or adult professionals. To plan that path ahead is extremely important. If you wish to get someplace in life, you need to know where you’re going, and how you’re getting there.

3. Go, Study Abroad Today!

“Yeah, and you’re financing me, right!”

Believe it or not, studying abroad need not be as costly as many assume that it will be. In fact, that is one of the several myths that are propagated about studying abroad. Given the right scholarships and a well written scholarship application, there’s a chance you could study abroad for less than you would pay at a top private university in India! What’s more, studying abroad has several personal, academic and career benefits in store for you.

4. Stop Wasting Your Time, Please

You’re doing it wrong if you’re all panicky and clueless about your future and wasting your most important resource — time. It’s imperative that you start being productive at what you are doing and start prioritizing appropriately. As soon as you start utilizing your time appropriately, you’ll learn what’s important and not in the long term, helping you get miles closer to answering your question.

5. Learn the Future Workplace and Go Act on It Today

The workplace of the future is shaping up to be a much different space than our parents had access to. This extends not only to the day-to-day running of the office, but also the fact that technology has gained utmost important in recent years. This also thus extends to how you can improve your career prospects by using technology to skill up, connect and grow.

If you really want to know what you can do with your life, there’s only one way to find out: by starting to do at least something with it that gives importance to it, and eventually you’ll arrive at your answer.
